Committee Democrats are committed to ensuring that all children have safe living and learning environments, and have opportunities to succeed in college and their career.
Children who are born into adverse or unsafe conditions – or find themselves in those environments as teenagers or young adults – face a more challenging path to achieving success. Whether it is abusive disciplinary practices, the dangerous use of seclusion or restraint on students, poor child safety policies, or parental addiction to illegal or prescription drugs, these environments put children at risk and are barriers to children’s physical health and safety, academic growth, and social development.
