Shea-Porter to Trump: Hands Off Women’s Birth Control
WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) released the following statement after the Trump administration issued a rule to roll back the requirement that employer-sponsored insurance plans cover birth control as preventive care, with no out-of-pocket cost:
“I am outraged by the Trump Administration’s most sweeping attack yet on women’s access to health care. The vast majority of American women get their health insurance through an employer, and this rule will endanger their access to contraceptives, which are used by many women to treat medical conditions as well as to prevent unwanted pregnancy. We must defeat this rule and make it clear to President Trump that women and men reject this interference in access to birth control.”
BACKGROUND
According to Census data, 58% of adults in New Hampshire get their health insurance through an employer and could be affected by today’s proposed rule.
