Miller Applauds Senate HELP Committee Passage of Education Research Bill

WASHINGTON—With a unanimous vote, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee today approved legislation to support federal education research and improve states’ and school districts’ access to information on successful education practices. Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.), senior Democrat on the House Education and the Workforce Committee and co-sponsor of the original House version of the Strengthening Education through Research Act (SETRA), released the following statement upon the HELP Committee’s passage of the bill.

“With today’s vote, the Senate HELP Committee has brought us one step closer to bolstering the federal government’s critical role in education research,” said Rep. Miller. “Relevant and reliable research is vital to improving educational outcomes. The Strengthening Education through Research Act will help to ensure that research meets the real needs of students and those who work with them. States, schools, teachers and—most importantly—students will all benefit when the full Senate passes SETRA and President Obama signs the legislation into law.”

The House passed the Strengthening Education through Research Act in May of this year.
