Chairman Scott Statement on the CARES Act

WASHINGTON – Today Chairman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott issued the following statement after the Senate release the text of the CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act.

“The proposal that Senate Republicans revealed this morning would not provide students, workers, and families the urgent relief they need. Our country needs a stimulus package that puts money into the hands of workers and families, so they can sustain themselves – and the economy – in the weeks and months ahead. Handing $500 billion to corporations with no protections for workers, no equity for taxpayers, and no transparency to the American public is a recipe for disaster.

“Our economy needs immediate, comprehensive, and sustained support that puts the health and needs of the public ahead of corporate interests. I am committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to quickly find common ground on a stimulus package that puts students, workers, and families first.”
