Chairman Scott Statement on Nomination of David Weil
WASHINGTON – Chairman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement in response to the nomination of David Weil as Administrator of the Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor.
“The Biden-Harris Administration’s nomination of Dr. David Weil signals that workers can expect the Department of Labor will have their backs at this critical moment in time. The intersection of a rapidly changing economy and a pandemic-fueled recession has left America’s underpaid and undervalued workers even more vulnerable to wage theft and other abuses. Perhaps no one is better prepared to address today’s challenges than Dr. Weil.
“Through his work in this same role under the Obama Administration – as well as his esteemed career as a researcher and writer – Dr. Weil has demonstrated an unparalleled understanding of the need for effective enforcement of federal minimum wage and overtime laws, as well other core legal protections for workers and their families.
“I applaud this nomination and hope Dr. Weil receives the quick confirmation he deserves. His experience and expertise will make him an effective champion for workers across the country.”
