Chairman Scott: Biden Plan is a Bold Vision for New Jobs, Safer Communities
WASHINGTON – Chairman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after President Biden released his American Jobs Plan.
“President Biden’s American Jobs Plan outlines a bold vision for creating millions of good-paying jobs and protecting the health and well-being of our children, workers, and communities.
“The Biden Plan will get struggling Americans back to work by making unprecedented and long-overdue investments in programs that are proven to help workers develop in-demand skills that prepare them for rewarding careers. This funding is critical to securing a place in the middle class for millions of workers and their families, making American businesses more competitive, and strengthening the U.S. economy.
“The infrastructure plan also keeps President Biden’s promise to build back a better economy where workers can earn decent wages and have a voice in their workplace. I welcome the president’s continued commitment to protecting workers’ fundamental right to organize and form a union.
“In addition, this proposal makes necessary investments in rebuilding unsafe school buildings, expanding child care facilities, and replacing toxic lead pipes that endanger countless communities every day. It also directs urgently needed funding to support infrastructure for institutions of higher education.
“The American Jobs Plan reflects many of the key legislative priorities championed by the Education and Labor Committee. I applaud President Biden for his leadership in proposing a plan that ensures all Americans can share in this recovery, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to translate this vision into legislation that we can put on the president’s desk.”
