Chairman Scott Statement on March Jobs Report

WASHINGTON – Chairman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the economy added 916,000 jobs in March with the unemployment rate at 6.0 percent.

“Today’s job report shows that the American economy is rebounding but still has a long way to go to fully address the impact of COVID-19. With the leadership of President Biden and Congressional Democrats, the American Rescue Plan Act is accelerating the recovery by providing urgent relief to support our communities and finally defeat the pandemic.

“Unfortunately, the damage done to workers, families, and businesses over the past year will not be easily undone. This week, President Biden has outlined a bold vision for creating millions of good-paying jobs and rebuilding America’s infrastructure. The American Jobs Plan will get more Americans back to work by making unprecedented and long-overdue investments to help workers develop in-demand skills that prepare them for rewarding careers. The infrastructure plan also keeps President Biden’s promise to build back a better economy where workers can earn decent wages and have a voice in their workplace.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has had a severe and disproportionate impact on low-wage and middle-class workers. We cannot settle for a recovery that leaves hardworking people and their families behind. We must make the bold investments outlined in the American Jobs Plan.”
