Scott Statement on February Jobs Report
WASHINGTON – Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the economy added 311,000 jobs in February as the unemployment rate edged up by .2 percent to 3.6 percent.
“Under the leadership of the Biden-Harris Administration, the unemployment rate is near record lows, job growth continues to reach all-time highs, and workers’ wages are rising. This is no accident. It is a direct result of the investments Congressional Democrats made to help grow the economy from the bottom up and the middle out, despite the challenges of a global inflation market.
“However, our nation’s best days are still ahead. And the American people are counting on Congress to continue delivering the support that workers and families need. That’s why I recently reintroduced the Richard L. Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act alongside a bipartisan group of House and Senate members. We know that when workers can freely and fairly join a union, they have higher pay, better benefits, and safer workplaces. By passing the PRO Act, Congress will ensure workers receive their fair share of our nation’s economic growth. I look forward to working with my colleagues to deliver this critical priority on behalf of workers, families, and our economy.”
