Sanders, Scott, Murray, Ellison to Introduce $15 Minimum Wage
Agenda
WASHINGTON- Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03), Ranking Member, Committee on Education and the Workforce, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions and Congressman Keith Ellison (MN-05) will hold a press conference to announce their the Raise the Wage Act of 2017. This legislation will raise the minimum wage nationwide incrementally from the current level of $7.25 to $15.00 an hour by 2024, and index the minimum wage to the median wage starting in 2025.
For millions of people across the country, working 40 hours or more a week is not enough to pay the bills, support their families, and achieve economic mobility. People who work hard and play by the rules should not have to live in poverty, but sadly, that is the reality for many people working in jobs paying the federal minimum wage.
