Scott to Join Members of Congress, Advocates to Announce Introduction of Schedules that Work Act
Legislation Would Provide Stability to Hourly Workers, Enact Scheduling Practices that Protect Workers’ Rights
WASHINGTON – Tomorrow, Wednesday, July 15th at 2 p.m., United States Representatives Bobby Scott (D-Va.), Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), and Donna Edwards (D-Md.), Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), and Al Franken (D-Minn.), and women’s and labor groups will hold a press conference to mark the bicameral introduction of the Schedules that Work Act of 2015.
The Schedules That Work Act addresses unstable, unpredictable, and rigid scheduling practices like placing workers “on-call” with no guarantee of work hours, scheduling them for “split shifts” of non-consecutive hours, sending workers home early without pay when demand is low and punishing workers who request schedule changes. Fair, flexible, consistent scheduling allows workers to succeed at work and at home.
