Scott Supports Call for Paid Sick and Family Leave
WASHINGTON—Rep. Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-VA), ranking member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, released the following statement today in response to President Obama’s new proposals to expand paid sick leave and for new funding to help more states to create paid family leave programs:
“Today, too many families are struggling to balance responsibilities at home and at work. The American workplace has simply not kept pace with the changing American family.
“We must bring our workplaces into the 21st century with family-friendly policies that help both employers and employees. Studies have shown that when people are able to care for their families and maintain a stable life at home, they are more productive on the job—improving employers’ bottom line and strengthening the American economy.
“The paid sick leave and paid family leave policies laid out by President Obama today will help millions of Americans better manage the needs of their job, their family, and their health. I call on my colleagues in Congress to join together in a bipartisan fashion to strengthen family-friendly work policies.”
