Scott Statement on Trump Administration’s Sabotage of the Affordable Care Act

WASHINGTON – Rep. Bobby Scott (VA-03), ranking member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, issued the following statement after reports that the Trump Administration still has not made September’s outreach payments to enrollment assistance groups.

“Over the past few months, we have seen repeated attempts by the Trump Administration to sabotage the Affordable Care Act – from refusing to commit to paying the cost-sharing reduction payments that help make insurance affordable for individuals and families to slashing funding for personal assistance for Marketplace enrollment by forty percent. Numerous reports have shown that the Trump Administration has actually halted payments to organizations for their ACA enrollment assistance work. This assistance is essential for people across the country who need help finding the best plan for their needs and budget. Cutting back on enrollment assistance makes it less likely that healthy people will enroll in coverage, spreading risk – and costs – across a smaller number of people.  To ensure strong Marketplaces, we must encourage robust enrollment and provide consumers the tools they need to enroll.  I urge the administration to stop its acts of sabotage and reinstate the full funding for vital outreach and enrollment assistance programs.”
