Scott Statement on September Jobs Report

WASHINGTON – Chairman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the economy added 194,000 in September as the unemployment rate fell to 4.8 percent.

“Today’s jobs report demonstrates that the Biden-Harris economic agenda is putting Americans back to work. Since President Biden took office, the economy has added 4.8 million jobs, the most jobs ever created in the first 9 months of any Administration.

“We still have work to do to overcome the serious challenges caused by the Delta variant and build an economy where all families and workers have the opportunity to succeed.

“Earlier this month, Committee Democrats took a major step toward delivering critical investments that will help millions of Americans get back to work. As this jobs report shows, we have not done enough to help care givers get back into the workplace. According to a new Committee analysis, the child care provisions in the Build Back Better Act will save families in all 50 states thousands of dollars in child care costs. Our investments will also help Americans get good-paying jobs by providing two years of tuition-free community college and expanding job training programs.

“Every investment made in the Build Back Better Act is necessary to fulfil our promise to help workers and families succeed. Congress has a responsibility to pass the Build Back Better Act and secure a strong, inclusive economy.”
