Scott Statement on Nomination of Chairman Tom Price for HHS Secretary

WASHINGTON – Ranking Member Bobby Scott (D-VA) released the following statement after it was reported that Budget Committee Chairman Tom Price will be nominated for U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services:

“I congratulate my colleague Tom Price on his nomination to serve as our nation’s next Secretary of Health and Human Services. This position has been, and must continue to be, one that enhances and protects the health of all Americans, especially the most vulnerable among us. 

“As Chairman of the House Budget Committee, Congressman Price authored several budgets that would dismantle the social safety net, end the Medicare guarantee, and roll back access to affordable health care for working families. I hope that if confirmed Congressman Price will use his new position to advance evidence-based policies that will not limit access to health care, weaken the social safety net, or decrease families’ ability to benefit from services that help them lead healthy lives. To achieve this, he must work with both Democrats and Republicans to administer policies that support and improve the lives of all Americans.”
