Scott Statement on June Jobs Report

WASHINGTON – Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-VA) issued the following statement after the Department of Labor announced that the economy added 223,000 jobs during the month of June, while the unemployment rate dropped to 5.3 percent:

“Today’s jobs report shows that our economy is still improving, growing and heading in the right direction. With the sixty-fourth consecutive month of private sector job growth, and the unemployment rate down to 5.3 percent, our nation continues to recover from the 2008 economic recession. Americans are finding more opportunities to get back to work, and put more money into their pockets.

“While this is excellent news, our efforts to rebuild our economy are not complete until every person who wants a job is able to find a stable one. Here in Congress, we must work to ensure that families are able to earn a living wage and are able to take paid time off to care for loved ones. I remain committed to shepherding legislation that would strengthen our nation’s middle class and help hardworking families get ahead in a time of relentless economic and technological change.”
