Scott Statement on Consequences of GOP’s Partial Repeal Plan for the Affordable Care Act

WASHINGTON – Ranking Member Bobby Scott (VA-03) released the following statement on the Urban Institute’s new report detailing the impact of Republicans’ plan to partially repeal the Affordable Care Act:

“The Urban Institute’s report shows that plans to repeal large parts of the ACA through a special budget procedure – without any viable or serious alternative – could result in drastic consequences for millions of people. According to this report, a partial repeal with no replacement would leave nearly 30 million newly insured Americans out in the cold. This number includes both people who would become uninsured as a result of eliminating the Medicaid expansion and the ACA’s financial assistance to purchase private health insurance, as well as over seven million people who would lose insurance due to collateral damage and near collapse of the individual insurance market. Of the nearly 30 million at risk of losing coverage, two-thirds are in families with a full-time worker. Republicans must consider the severe impact of their actions on the health and prosperity of millions of American working families.”
