Scott Statement on CBO Score of Republicans’ Latest Attempt to Repeal the ACA

WASHINGTON – Ranking Member Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement after the Congressional Budget Office released a new score for the Republicans’ bill to partially repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA):

“After multiple unsuccessful attempts at repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act, Republicans are promising to dismantle the progress of the last seven years by repealing the ACA—with no alternative. All of their proposed ‘solutions’ result in fewer people with insurance and everyone else paying more for less care. In fact, the Congressional Budget Office just confirmed that the latest proposal to just repeal the ACA will result in 32 million fewer Americans with health insurance.  Not only will premiums double, but in ten years, 75% of the country will live in an area with no insurer in the Marketplace. Furthermore, after repeal, the possibility of any credible replacement is unlikely. Not only have Republicans been totally unsuccessful in crafting a replacement, but they also will be unwilling to pass tax increases to pay for it. We cannot let Republicans take us backward and gamble with the health and financial security of millions of our fellow Americans. It is time to finally give up their repeal effort and work with Democrats on policies that will help working families and build on the ACA's progress.”
