Rep. George Miller Statement on Introduction of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act

WASHINGTON – Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.), the senior Democratic member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, issued the following statement today after a bipartisan group of members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate reintroduced the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, legislation that would end employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

“I applaud today’s bipartisan introduction of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. This bill is just one more step in ensuring that LGBT Americans are allowed to be full participants in our society and economy. The fact remains that this legislation is necessary because fully qualified individuals are being denied employment or are being fired from their jobs because of who they are. The bipartisan introduction reflects a growing national consensus stretching across political lines that these employment practices are simply unacceptable, and employment decisions should be based on merit and performance, not prejudice.”
