Ranking Member Scott’s Statement on Trump and RFK Jr. Plans to Eliminate Agencies and Cut Thousands of HHS Workers
“There is nothing efficient about broad cuts that erode the programs that keep Americans safe, healthy, and thriving.”
WASHINGTON – Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03), House Committee on Education and Workforce, released the following statement in response to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announcement to cut thousands of jobs in accordance with President Trump’s disastrous executive order to unjustly overhaul federal agencies at the expense of families, children, and seniors.
“There is nothing efficient about broad cuts that erode the programs that keep Americans safe, healthy, and thriving, including a total elimination of the Administration for Community Living—an agency designed to centralize programs that advance community living and increase efficiency. This announcement comes on the heels of last week’s plan to dismantle the Department of Education and cause massive disruptions to the systems that support people with disabilities, such as those provided under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
“By conducting mass layoffs of thousands of employees, reducing HHS staffing by nearly a quarter, and shuttering key agencies within the Department of Health and Human Services, President Trump and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. are making clear that the health and safety of seniors, children, and people with disabilities rank last on the Trump Administration’s list of priorities.”
