Ranking Member Scott: Workers, Retirees Must Have Strong Voice in Solving Multiemployer Pension Crisis

“These workers, retirees, and employers … are counting on us to work together and deliver a bipartisan solution that protects their pensions and responsibly addresses this crisis.”

WASHINGTON – Education and the Workforce Committee Ranking Member Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement ahead of the Joint Select Committee on the Solvency of Multiemployer Pension Plans field hearing in Columbus, Ohio at 2 p.m.

“Today’s hearing is a critical opportunity to hear from workers and retirees who have so much at stake. Through no fault of their own, these hard-working Americans are at risk of losing nearly everything they worked and sacrificed for over their lifetime. We also will hear from employers whose businesses hang in the balance because of the multiemployer pension crisis.

“These workers, retirees, and employers testifying today – as well as the thousands of others who traveled to today’s hearing from across the country – are counting on the Joint Select Committee. They are counting on us to work together and deliver a bipartisan solution that protects their pensions and responsibly addresses this crisis. The stakes are too high. And the costs and consequences of inaction are too great. I remain committed to this Committee’s work, and I am pleased to be in Ohio today to listen to these important voices.”
