PROMISES KEPT: Committee on Education and Labor Highlights Legislative Milestones in the First 100 Days of 116th Congress
WASHINGTON – Today, the Committee on Education and Labor marked its first 100 days of the 116th Congress by highlighting its work on behalf of students, workers, and families across the country. In just over three months, the Committee has advanced legislation to improve public schools, protect and strengthen the Affordable Care Act, and raise wages for millions of workers.
“Over the first 100 days of the 116th Congress, the Committee has followed through on the promises we made to our constituents,” said Chairman Bobby Scott (VA-03). “We’ve advanced legislation to strengthen our schools, increase workers’ paychecks, and expand Americans’ access to affordable health care. We look forward to continuing to work together on behalf of students, families, workers, and all Americans to build a country where everyone can succeed.”
Thus far, the Committee has approved legislation to:
- Invest $100 billion to repair critical physical and digital infrastructure needs in public schools across the country and create over 1.9 million good-paying jobs (H.R. 865 Rebuild America’s Schools Act);
- End gender-based wage discrimination and ensure that all women receive equal pay for equal work (H.R. 7 Paycheck Fairness Act);
- Gradually increase the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2024 and give 40 million Americans a raise (H.R. 582 Raise the Wage Act); and
- Protect consumers from junk health plans by undoing the Trump Administration’s “Short-Term, Limited Duration Insurance” rule (H.R. 1010).
