Miller Statement on September Jobs Report

WASHINGTON—Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.), senior Democrat on the House Education and the Workforce Committee, released the following statement today after the Department of Labor economy added 248,000 jobs in September and the unemployment rate dropped to 5.9 percent, the lowest unemployment rate since July 2008.

“September’s jobs report is another sign that our country is moving in the right direction after the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. The economy has now seen 55 consecutive months of private sector job creation, the longest such streak in our nation’s history. Businesses are on pace for the strongest year of job growth in over a decade and the unemployment rate has hit a six-year low.

“Despite these improvements, we still have much more work to do. Too many Americans remain jobless and too many families are struggling to make ends meet. We must enact policies that jumpstart the middle class, strengthen the economy and create opportunities for all Americans.”
