Miller Statement on Senate Legislation to Rewrite ESEA

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. George Miller (D-CA), the senior Democrat on the House Education and the Workforce Committee, released the following statement today after Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, introduced legislation to rewrite the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, currently known as No Child Left Behind.

“I commend Senator Harkin for his leadership in introducing legislation that continues to set high expectations for student success and reforms our nation’s education system. I applaud the focus on college and career ready standards, accountability for student performance, and taking action when any student falls behind. By tackling these issues, Senator Harkin's bill keeps us rightly focused on upholding the civil rights promise of our nation's education law - to provide all students, regardless of background, an equal opportunity to learn and succeed."
