Miller Statement on New Early Learning Competition

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S Rep. George Miller (D-CA), the senior Democrat on the Education and the Workforce Committee, released the following statement after the U.S. Departments of Education and Health and Human Services jointly issued draft guidelines for the new Race to the Top-Early Learning Challenge competition.

Miller has been a longtime advocate and champion for early education. In 2009, he introduced legislation to create the Early Learning Challenge Fund to dramatically improve the quality of early learning opportunities across the country.

"The release of these draft guidelines is an important step in the Democratic investment in early learning. This competition will bring new energy and new opportunities to our nation's youngest learners. Especially in this economy, where more and more early learning opportunities are falling victim to budget cuts, this investment will make a real difference for children and families.  I will continue to follow this process closely and offer my feedback to ensure we're doing what is best for our children."
