Miller Encouraged By Accreditation Path for City College of San Francisco

WASHINGTON—Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.) released the following statement today after the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) proposed options that give the City College of San Francisco (CCSF) two years to come into compliance with ACCJC’s accrediting standards, rather than forcing the college to close its doors:

“I am encouraged by the fact that ACCJC has identified a path within accreditation for City College to rebuild. A rigorous accreditation process is essential in maintaining the integrity of colleges and ensures the long-term sustainability of institutions. ACCJC’s proposal balances proper oversight of rigorous academics, administrative capacity, and financial solvency with recognition of the tremendous progress made by the struggling college towards these standards.

“However, there is still much work to be done at CCSF to ensure its long-term sustainability. It will be up to the college to use this time effectively to get its fiscal house in order so that it can continue to fulfill its mission to serve its students and the community of San Francisco.”
