Democratic Health Leaders Blast Trump Administration for Latest Attempted Sabotage of the Affordable Care Act
WASHINGTON – Today, House Education and Labor Committee Chairman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-VA), House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA), House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee Ranking Member Patty Murray (D-WA), and Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR) released the following statement opposing the Trump administration’s Notice of Benefit and Payment Parameters for the 2022 proposed rule:
“Even in the administration’s final days and as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to ravage our country, President Trump will stop at nothing to dismantle Americans’ health care. Last week’s proposed regulation that would allow states to eliminate healthcare.gov jeopardizes access to high-quality health insurance plans and poses a significant risk to consumers.
“At a time when Americans are relying on their health insurance more than ever, any changes to the Affordable Care Act should be grounded in expanding enrollment and making information more readily available to the public. Instead, the Trump administration is attempting to make it even harder for people to get quality health insurance and once again encouraging the expansion of discriminatory junk health plans. This destructive move is not the will of the American people and we stand united in our strong opposition.”
