Democratic Health Leaders Blast Proposed CMS Marketplace Rule

WASHINGTON – Education and the Workforce Committee Ranking Member Bobby Scott (D-VA), Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard Neal (D-MA), and Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today released the following joint statement after the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released a proposed rule affecting the Health Insurance Marketplace.

“The Trump Administration's proposed rule continues Republican efforts to rip away health security from Americans who have gained coverage under the Affordable Care Act. While Republicans are intent on repealing the law, Americans around the country are calling on them to protect and improve the ACA. Today's proposed regulation to bail out insurance companies will shift costs onto consumers and make it harder for working families to get health insurance and see a doctor. The first action of Trumpcare rolls back consumer protections and tips the scales in favor of insurance companies. These changes will do nothing to fix the damage and uncertainty caused by Republicans’ actions to sabotage the law. If Republicans in Congress and President Trump want to work to stabilize the market, they must end their reckless attempts to repeal the law with no plan to replace it.”
