Congresswoman Susan Davis Statement on Closing the CFPB’s Office for Students and Young Consumers
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Susan Davis, Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development, released the following statement on the move by interim director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Mick Mulvaney to shut down the Office for Students and Young Consumers.
“Once again, this administration has chosen to undermine the financial security and consumer rights of students. Shutting down the CFPB’s Office for Students and Young Consumers signals a clear lack of interest in protecting Americans who are looking to better their lives through higher education.
“At a time when millions face crippling student loan debt, the Office for Students and Young Consumers has played a critical role in holding predatory loan servicers and lenders accountable. This decision is yet another example of the Trump administration’s insistence on putting corporate interests before students.”
