Committee Republicans Vote to Undermine Health Care Protections, Fuel Culture Wars, and Make School Meals Unhealthy
WASHINGTON – Today, Committee Republicans advanced four bills that would further politicize our classrooms, undermine essential health care coverage protections, and make school meals unhealthy.
“Ultimately, these four bills fall short of our promise to protect students, strengthen child nutrition, and ensure access to affordable, quality health coverage,” said Ranking Member Scott. “If we are serious about fulfilling our promise of helping students, we can work together to end gun violence in schools. We can comprehensively reauthorize federal child nutrition programs. And we can actually lower the cost of quality health insurance for workers and families.”
H.Res. 461 is yet another culture war-focused education proposal from extreme MAGA Republicans that does nothing to address learning loss or the greatest threat to our children’s safety: gun violence.
H.R. 1147 overrides child nutrition science and exposes children to unhealthy levels of cholesterol and saturated by introducing whole milk into school meals.
H.R. 2813 unravels critical consumer protections in health care from being applied to stop loss insurance and prevents state governments from protecting consumers against abusive stop loss practices.
H.R. 2868 attempts to sabotage the Affordable Care Act and increase health care costs for those who are more expensive to cover and the least able to afford care.
Republicans rejected a handful of reasonable amendments that would ensure access to quality, affordable health care is not undermined.
