Committee Republicans Bend the Knee, Vote to Slash Education to Pay for Tax Cuts for the Rich

WASHINGTON – Today, Education and Workforce Committee Republicans bent the knee and advanced the unpopular Republican budget plan— which would raise student loan payments for student loan borrowers.

The Republican’s budget raises the cost of going to college for students and families by restricting access to federal student aid and affordable student loan repayment plans, and it exposes students and taxpayers to predatory and low-quality institutions by repealing existing student protections.  This is all to pay for tax cuts for billionaires and corporations. 

Committee Republicans REJECTED every Democratic amendment that would actually help students afford college, access high-quality education, and complete their degrees. Here is just a sample of the more than 30 commonsense amendments Committee Democrats offered:
