Chairman Scott Statement on Trump Administration Request for Supreme Court to Strike Down Affordable Care Act
WASHINGTON – Chairman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Trump Administration filed a brief with the Supreme Court, requesting that the Court overturn the Affordable Care Act in its entirety.
“With today’s Supreme Court filing, the Trump Administration remains undeterred in its dangerous attack on Americans’ access to affordable health care.
“If the Administration succeeds in striking down the Affordable Care Act, the consequences for consumers will be disastrous. Tens of millions of people will lose their insurance; people with pre-existing conditions will lose their protections, affordability credits will evaporate, and consumer protections will be lost. We cannot afford to take this significant step backwards in our efforts to put quality health care within reach for all Americans, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We must build on the progress of the Affordable Care Act to expand access to health care coverage. This week, I joined my colleagues in introducing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act, which would lower the cost of health care and prescription drugs, help expand Medicaid across the country, and strengthen protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
“As we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and look to the future, we must continue to work towards providing all Americans access to the quality and affordable health care they need to lead fulfilling lives.”
