Chairman Scott Statement on Passing of Elizabeth Davis
WASHINGTON – Education and Labor Committee Chairman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement on the passing of Elizabeth Davis, the president of the Washington Teachers’ Union:
“The District has lost a true champion for education with the tragic death of Elizabeth Davis. From her activism as a teenager at Eastern Senior High School to her decades of service as both a teacher and education leader, Liz Davis always stood up for the District’s most vulnerable students and educators. As the president of the Washington Teachers’ Union, she navigated through multiple challenges to support educators, secure equitable funding for classrooms, and expand opportunities for low-income students. Her legacy lives on in the countless students whose lives she worked tirelessly to improve. I send my deepest condolences to Liz Davis’s family and friends as we mourn her sudden passing.”
