Chairman Scott Statement on House Passage of the American Rescue Plan
WASHINGTON – Today, Chairman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 1319, the American Rescue Plan, which provides urgent COVID-19 relief for students, workers, and families.
“Today, the House of Representatives took a monumental step towards defeating the COVID-19 pandemic and creating a strong and shared recovery for our communities.
“The American Rescue Plan provides schools with the resources they need to re-open safely, protect students and staff, and make up for lost time in the classroom. It directs urgently needed relief to institutions of higher education, child care providers, and the essential workers who have worked throughout this pandemic but still cannot provide for themselves or their families.
“And, as we continue to confront a global health pandemic, this relief package expands access to affordable health care, invests in critical programs to support older Americans and other vulnerable individuals, and addresses the tragic surge in childhood hunger.
“Our nation’s students, workers, and families are calling on Congress to provide the relief they urgently need. By passing the American Rescue Plan, we are sending a clear message that we are listening to our constituents and that help is on the way.”
