Chairman Scott Statement on ED Decision to Streamline Financial Aid Verification
WASHINGTON – Chairman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Education Department announced temporary changes to the federal student aid verification process for the 2021–22 award year. The temporary changes will provide relief to hundreds of thousands of students and thousands of colleges who may be facing challenges because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Education Department’s decision to streamline the financial aid verification process is an important and sensible step to help students stay in school and complete their degrees. In the wake of the disruption caused by the pandemic, the last thing eligible students should have to worry about is losing their financial aid and jeopardizing their future because of paperwork.
“Under Secretary Cardona’s leadership, the Biden-Harris administration has restored the Education Department’s commitment to serving the best interests of students with its renewed focus on its mission. I am encouraged by today’s announcement and look forward to working with the Administration to find new ways to support our students.”
