Chairman Scott Congratulates Kurt Russell, 2022 National Teacher of the Year
WASHINGTON – Chairman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Council of Chief State School Officers announced Kurt Russell, a history teacher in Ohio, as the 2022 National Teacher of the Year.
“I am proud to celebrate Kurt Russell as the 2022 National Teacher of the Year. Across the country, educators have been charged with the challenging task of helping our nation’s children recover from the pandemic. While Congress provided an historic $130 billion investment in K-12 education through the American Rescue Plan to accelerate this recovery, it is teachers like Mr. Russell who are delivering the academic and social support that students need to succeed.
“From emphasizing cultural relevance in his history class to advocating for his school’s Black Student Union, Mr. Russell’s work demonstrates the importance of inclusion and equity in helping our nation’s students grow. His leadership is a prime example of the incredible impact that diverse, high-quality educators have on students and our communities. Congratulations to Kurt Russell—as well as the State Teachers of the Year and all our nation’s teachers—for your commitment to helping students reach their full potential.”
