Chairman Scott Statement on November Jobs Report

WASHINGTON – Chairman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the economy added 210,000 jobs in November as the unemployment rate fell to 4.2 percent.

“Today’s jobs report demonstrates once again that America is on the move: 210,000 new jobs have been created, the unemployment rate is down, and two weeks ago, we saw the lowest level of initial jobless claims since October of 1969. President Biden has created more jobs in his first year in office than any other modern President during their first year. I applaud the Biden-Harris administration for its continued success in getting Americans back to work.

“To continue our nation’s economic recovery, and address the potential threat of the new Omicron variant, it is critical that federal, state, and local leaders do everything they can to promote vaccinations and booster shots so that Americans can confidently return to a safe work environment.

“Moreover, every investment we passed in the Build Back Better Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law ensures all Americans have the opportunity to share in our economic growth. Research shows that without affordable and accessible child care, parents cannot return to – or remain in – the workforce. Notably, the Build Back Better Act lowers the cost of child care and increases the supply of child care providers.

“Now, it’s up to the Senate to pass the Build Back Better Act and deliver these sensible investments to secure a strong future for parents, families, and our economy.”
