Chairman Scott Statement on December Jobs Report
WASHINGTON – Chairman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the economy added 199,000 in December as the unemployment rate fell to 3.9 percent.
“Today’s jobs report caps a historic year of recovery. Under the Biden-Harris Administration, our nation created more jobs in 2021 than any other year on record. The Biden-Harris economic agenda is getting Americans back to work.
“President Biden’s American Rescue Plan not only accelerated our economic recovery, it also delivered vital resources to help communities fight COVID-19. These resources expanded vaccination efforts and testing capacity, helped schools and child care facilities reopen and stay open safely so parents can return to work, and provided funding for states and local governments to meet their specific needs.
“We must continue to confront the challenges that American families are facing every day. The Build Back Better Act would lower the cost of child care, secure universal preschool for three- and four-year-olds, and provide high-quality job training, which will give parents both the skills to reenter the workforce and the freedom to go to work without having to worry whether their children are safe and cared for.
“Now it’s up to the Senate to seize this opportunity and deliver a better future for families and workers.”
