Scott Statement on December Jobs Report

WASHINGTON – Ranking Member Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the economy added 148,000 jobs in December, with the unemployment rate at 4.1 percent

“The latest jobs report shows that our economic recovery remains stable, yet there is still work to be done. Unfortunately, in the first year of the Trump administration, Congressional Republicans prioritized cutting taxes for the wealthy and undermining the Affordable Care Act over improving the lives of working families and people.

“This $1.5 trillion tax bill does little to create jobs, overwhelmingly benefits the wealthy, and squanders an opportunity to make investments in what will actually grow our economy and benefit working families.  My hope is that in this new year, Congress will focus on more productive, bipartisan solutions that will invest in improving education, creating good-paying jobs, and improving health care coverage.”
