Rep. Miller challenges graduates to disrupt the status quo at Stanford's School of Education commencement: News of the Day
In almost four decades of Congressional service, Rep. George Miller (D-CA) had declined every invitation to speak at commencements. That was until Sunday, when the senior Democrat on the Committee addressed the graduates of Stanford University's School of Education.
In his speech, Rep. Miller proposed a trade. He promised to "create public policy that will empower and enable you to make the sustainable reforms necessary for our children and our schools to succeed." In exchange, the graduates must agree to become “a disrurpter” – someone who will challenge the status quo and “won’t wait for change to come. You will embrace it and you will fight for your students.”
