WHAT: Member roundtable on federal policy responses to automation and the future of work.
BACKGROUND: Emerging automation and artificial intelligence technologies have the potential not only to disrupt labor markets in key sectors, but also to displace a large numbers of workers. Research shows this will have a disparate impact on low wage workers including women and people of color. In the coming years, the country will be faced with increasing job loss as a result of automation. An Oxford University study estimates that 47 percent of U.S. jobs may be automated by 2033. Innovative policies are needed to respond to these future changes.
