Rep. Bishop Offers Amendment to Protect Pell Grants, Education Investments
U.S. Rep. Tim Bishop (D-N.J.) offered the following amendment during consideration of the Committee on Education and the Workforce rules for the 112th Congress:
AMENDMENT TO THE COMMITTEE PRINT OF THE RULES OF THE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION AND THE WORKFORCE FOR THE 112TH CONGRESS
OFFERED BY MR. BISHOP
At the end of Rule 12, add the following:
“(f) The Committee shall not report any bill or other matter that, with respect to matters within the Committee’s jurisdiction, (1) abolishes the Department of Education, (2) reduces the maximum Pell grant award, (3) eliminates student aid programs, or (4) otherwise has the effect of threatening student achievement and the nation’s global competitiveness, including by reducing funding for programs that aid disabled or disadvantaged children.”
