Scott Statement on November Jobs Report

WASHINGTON – Ranking Member Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the economy added 155,000 jobs in November. The unemployment rate held steady at 3.7 percent.

“Today’s jobs report reveals the economic state of workers and middle-class families remains fragile despite a prolonged period of low unemployment. Wages have remained largely stagnant – particularly for low-wage earners – and too many workers are forced to work multiple jobs just to make ends meet. What’s worse, the Majority’s major legislative accomplishment from the 115th Congress was a massive tax cut that overwhelmingly benefits corporations and the wealthy.

“Next year, this Committee will work to build an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.  This means raising the federal minimum wage, expanding access to overtime pay, protecting all workers from discrimination, expanding access to health care and child care, and ensuring that all Americans can retire with dignity.”
